We’re excited to announce that our school in Kavizinde, Malawi is now completed! The school provides vital education to 1,055 students (526 girls) and has 16 wonderful teachers, teaching 8 different grade levels.

About Kavizinde Primary School
In an effort to develop the community and its surrounding area, Kavizinde Primary School's administrators have worked diligently to consistently recruit and enroll youth. Looking at the annual enrollment rates, it can be seen that their labor has been quite fruitful. However in its endeavors to develop, Kavizinde Primary has steadily encountered roadblocks, most specifically related to its shortage of materials.
As the school's population has grown, the school has not been able to adequately keep up with the necessary number of classrooms and classroom furniture such as desks. In the short term, parents of Kavizinde Primary's students have found solutions by recruiting the assistance of churches, while the teachers continue to utilize the classrooms and trees at their disposal. Despite their ingenuity, Kavizinde's parents and school administrators have yet to find a sustainable solution to their school's shortage.
Kavizinde's administrators and parents work to encourage their youth to remain persistent in their educational endeavors; however, the inconsistent learning environment that the school's eleven permanent spaces offer, has persuaded many students to relinquish their studies at Kavizinde Primary. In doing so, some youth have pursued their studies at other educational institutions meanwhile others have abandoned their educational aspirations altogether.
With the next nearest proper school a 5 km walk over sandy terrain, the community members of Kavizinde were left with few options for their children. Through your partnership, buildOn will be able to provide the village of Kavizinde with a proper school block and latrines. Community leaders and buildOn staff members will also be working together closely to increase the number of students, especially girls, enrolled in this school.

Nine-year-old Patricia is a passionate third grade student and one of 1,055 children in Kavizinde who can't wait to have a new school to learn in.
