About tienko

The village of Tienko is a community of approximately 1,750 people located in the Sikasso region. Most community members are subsistence farmers who rear livestock and grow corn, cotton, peanuts, potatoes, beans and millet.

A school block was first created back in 2002 but since then the community has grown and some children were learning outside in a temporary classroom with no proper walls or flooring. Bad weather, dust and noise often made it difficult for children to focus.

Today, all that has changed and the students of Tienko now have enough indoor classroom space to learn comfortably.
